Our ChannelEyes were
popping out on the MiniFrameUK stand
yesterday when we saw award-winning SoftXpand in action,
turning a standard Windows PC into multiple independent
workstations - with no loss in performance.
“This is the
ultimate green PC,” commented Roger Anscombe,
MiniFrameUK’s MD. “Using SoftXpand offers measurable
savings of up to 83% by reducing energy consumption, CO2
emissions, maintenance and space.”
A single PC can
run up to six workstations, each consisting simply of a
standard monitor, mouse and keyboard – no proprietary
hardware is required, and the user experience is
identical to that of a standard PC, with multiple users
able to run VoIP, multimedia, graphic and 3D
applications simultaneously.
“The problem is
that the product is so good, no one believes it. People
assume that with one hard-drive, it will run slower, and
are surprised when they sit down that it doesn’t. And
organisations get the purchase price back in two years
in electricity savings alone,” Roger continued.
Aligned with
industry standards, SoftXpand’s proprietary load
balancing algorithm makes full use of CPU and video
cards’ GPU resources and allocates them amongst the
workstations. It looks pretty neat too.
